Astaxanthin is the main ingredient in our general health formula AstaTrienol.

Perhaps you've heard of astaxanthin, the powerful antioxidant known best as "King of the Carotenoids." It's a relatively new player amongst the better-known antioxidants although it's completely natural and the animal kingdom has been utilizing it for millennia.

Astaxanthin is produced by crustaceans, algae, krill and others. Most astaxanthin obtainable as a nutritional supplement is sourced from algae farms if it is standardized, and in krill oil where it is naturally present. It is bright red in colour and in fact astaxanthin is the reason salmon are pink. They cannot utilize it themselves which is why the concentration in salmon builds up so much that you can see it.

Astaxanthin has been the subject of countless research studies in the past couple decades. It's shown promise in a wide variety of applications such as a UV protectant, inflammation regulator, heart health promoter, and vision strengthener.

Astaxanthin has the rare ability amongst antioxidants to cross the blood-brain barrier. This is especially important for your mental health as your brain, being comprised mostly of fat, is the human organ most susceptible to free radical damage.

Unfortunately it is difficult to consume enough astaxanthin in your diet to be of particular use and so supplementing is the way to go. I believe that our oceans are very important and discourage the use of fish and krill oils as an astaxanthin source when it can be readily harvested inland from commercial aglae farms.

The astaxanthin in our AstaTrienol formulation is grown in pristine conditions in Hawaii overlooking the Pacific. We then chose to put that along with Tocotrienols into a softgel. The reason being that softgels don't allow astaxanthin to come in contact with oxygen which will degrade its quality quickly. Beware of powdered or capped astaxanthin as it may not be potent.

You will see that all of our product kits are based around AstaTrienol because astaxanthin is so useful in so many applications. If I had to choose just 1 supplement to take, assuming a balanced diet that provided all essential vitamins and minerals, I would choose astaxanthin without a second thought.
