One of the hot new supplement products these days is Krill Oil. It's rich in EPA and HDA omega fatty acids, contains astaxanthin, and krill seem to be doing well on this planet with an estimated 500,000,000 tonnes of biomass. Some argue that krill are the most successful organism in the world.

I believe that harvesting krill is unnecessary from a health standpoint and hazardous from an ecological standpoint.

Krill's Health Benefits

There is no arguing krill's awesome health benefits. A full range of Omega 3 EFAs and loads of astaxanthin make it a super-supplement. But these things are not unique to krill. Nuts, some plants, and fish are all loaded with Omega 3s. Astaxanthin is a bit more rare but is farmed in massive quantities using completely renewable algae farms. In fact, the astaxanthin we use in our AstaTrienol is farmed in the tropical environment of Hawaii.

Krill Supports the Ocean

Krill is at the very bottom of the food chain. Everything in the ocean depends on krill. Blue Whales filter and feed on massive quantities of krill every day and eat them exclusively. Blue Whales weight 200 tons. Other fish also eat krill, who in turn are eaten by larger fish. Krill are important.

Only Humans...

Only humans have the capacity to use up all the krill. Currently krill are being used for pet food, fish food, and human supplement production. It's estimated that krill populations are now just 20% of what they were only 30 years ago. That's an enourmous impact and one that we should all be responsible for reversing.

Do your part and supplement responsibly, sustainably, and healthfully.
